New Medicine Service
Starting a new medication can feel overwhelming. The New Medicine Service (NMS) is a free NHS service designed to support you when starting a new medicine for certain conditions. Ask our team in-store if you’re eligible.
The NMS supports people with long-term conditions who are newly prescribed medication. It helps improve adherence, reduce medication waste, and identify any adverse reactions early in treatment. Our pharmacists also provide lifestyle advice to help you manage your condition effectively.
You may be eligible if you’re starting a new medicine for:
-
Antiplatelet or anticoagulant therapy
-
Asthma or COPD
-
Hypertension
-
Type 2 diabetes
A member of our team will explain the service and ask for your consent to participate.
-
Initial Consultation: A pharmacist will explain your new medication and the service, then schedule a follow-up in two weeks.
-
Follow-Up Consultation: We’ll check how you’re managing your medication, address any issues, and provide guidance.
-
Final Consultation: A final meeting ensures you understand your treatment and are not experiencing any adverse effects.
Whenever you start a new medicine, speak to our team at Aston Pharmacy to see if you’re eligible for the New Medicine Service.
